Over the years this art manifestation for professional artists, held on Sundays, has grown into an art market with immense popularity in and outside the Netherlands.

For the city of Amsterdam, and especially for the neighbourhood of the Rembrandtplein and the Thorbeckeplein, the art market has become a crowd magnet with an approximate number of interested visitors of about 350.000 per year.

An average of 25 visual artists are presenting their work every Sunday. The open contact between artists and visitors often leads to inspiring moments. Laughter and other emotions, admiration and the odd "I could do that too" are some of the direct reactions, which also form the necessary life force for the participants.

For the artists, who come from all parts of the Netherlands, the presentation of their visual work on this Sunday art market is a welcome supplementation to exposing in galeries, fairs and open art studios.
